What is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is a UK Government initiative designed to encourage property owners to install low carbon heating systems such as heat pumps. The scheme offers upfront capital grants to help cover the initial cost of installation.
How Much is the Grant?
Currently, the scheme provides:
- £7,500 off the cost and installation of an air source heat pump
- £7,500 off the cost and installation of a ground source heat pump
- £5,000 off the cost and installation of a biomass boiler
Who is Eligible?
You can apply if you:
- Own the property you're applying for (including if it's a business, a second home, or a property you rent out to tenants)
- Are replacing fossil fuel heating systems (such as oil, gas or electric)
- Have a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) with no outstanding recommendations for loft or cavity wall insulation
How to Apply
You don't apply for the grant yourself. You must use an MCS certified installer who will apply for the grant on your behalf. The value of the grant will be discounted off your final bill.
